Way back when........

It has been told that when the Leavitt family had their meal, Ken sat between Jim and Lila at the table. They always had to "clean" their plates and not waste any food. Whenever they had beans, which Ken didn't like, he would sweeten the beans with sugar and then he'd push them right over on Lila's plate and she would just eat them without saying a word. It was during the Depression and they had many meals consisting of beans! When Lila married, Ken would proceed to push the beans on to Jim's plate without him knowing. Jim would take one bite and taste the "sweet beans" and exclaim "That damn kid can eat his OWN beans!"

Thoughts of Veyo

One of the first things Grant remembers about Veyo is that it felt like one BIG family.  Everyone seemed to take care of each other. He remembers that Steven and him were always together and always in trouble especially for racing. Dad (Ken) and Uncle Leo bought a couple of old horses for Steven and Grant. Uncle Jim by Milt Lytle August 2014

Uncle Jim lived a short life. He took me fishing once with one or two other kids when I was about 6 years old. I caught my first and only fish. I am not a fisherman. We went to the Pine Valley Reservoir. Uncle Jim had a stroke and lost the use of his right side and had to learn to sign his name with his left hand. He spent some time with us in our den in St. George. He was confined to his hospital bed just adjacent to the kitchen. Tim being the mischievous kid of 4 or 5 yrs. old, decided to roast some marshmallows in the oven. He had seen our mom do it and she was gone at the time. Anyway, he forgot about them and they burned making a smoke. Well, poor Uncle Jim thought he was done for and couldn't get up. I guess some one eventually showed up to the rescue.
