Thoughts of Veyo by Grant Leavitt written in 2003

Thoughts of Veyo

One of the first things Grant remembers about Veyo is that it felt like one BIG family.  Everyone seemed to take care of each other. He remembers that Steven and him were always together and always in trouble especially for racing. Dad (Ken) and Uncle Leo bought a couple of old horses for Steven and Grant. Aunt Belle by Milt Lytle August 2014

Aunt Belle, she was always the sweet humble person and never spoke a cross word that I know about. I spent quite a little time there when we lived in Veyo or just visiting. Uncle Vaughn and Aunt Belle always were gracious hosts and welcomed everyone. Aunt Belle was a good cook along with all of her sisters. I'll always remember Uncle Vaughn's wind up phone. For many years, it was the only phone in Veyo until the phone company installed phones in all the homes.  He had to have it to communicate with the other power plants under his supervision. Aunt Belle had an antique player organ which was a treat to hear. Sometimes one her grand children (Carolyn or Marilyn) got to play it for me. Uncle Vaughn had the only bomb shelter in town and used it for home food storage. Uncle Vaughn was also the bishop at that time and I was also his home teaching partner. I had a good relationship with them both.

Story of Andrews death submitted by Viola Seitz Schiefer

Andrew was called to be the Bishop of the Veyo ward. About six months later he received a promotion with the company so that the family could move to Veyo and live in their two room home. It was very small with three children and another on the way. They set their hearts on building a new larger home. They drew up the plans and hired a contractor. Then disaster struck the family.
