Aunt Vilate and Uncle Arvel by Milt Lytle August 2014

Aunt Vilate and Uncle Arvel owned and operated the flour mill in Hurricane. We went their periodically to get flour and cracked wheat. I believe we ate a meal there with them once and always remember the excellent home bread she made. Didn't get to see them very often because of the distance from St. George to Hurricane. Wasn't that far but not as convenient as being closer to Veyo and St. George families. They always welcomed visitors.

The Wedding
October 13, 1926 Andrew and Lila drove to St. George. Lila wanted to have her hair fixed but there were no openings. They went on to a dairy farm where Vilate, Lila’s sister and her husband, Arvel lived. They stayed overnight with them. Arising early the next morning they went off to take Mary, Vilate’s baby, to her Webb grandparents. Without their knowledge, the irrigation ditch had run over washing out a piece of the road; it was right at a turn in the road and not possible to see in advance.
