The year Grant went to college, Dad (Ken) bought a catapillar and a scraper for leveling farm ground. He was working on Talmage Jensen’s farm when one of the tires on the scraper went flat. There was a big split in the tire. Dad had Grant put the tire in the trunk of the old Pontiac and take it to town to put a boot in the tire. Everything went fine until Grant was almost back to the scraper when the tire blew. The force blew the tire clear out of the car and filled the passenger compartment with dust and insulation. So much for improvising. Dad built a shed and called it his “cat house”. The younger siblings were cautioned not to talk about their Dad’s “cat house”.
