Memorable visits by Grant Leavitt
In the early years after moving to the Ranch in Torrey,
Uncle Leo and his family along with our cousin Art, came to visit. Steven, Art
and I went down into the pasture. Leo and Afton were standing on the porch of
the house wondering where the three boys were at. Afton pointed out to a swarm
of mosquitoes knowing that's where we probably were. The city slickers from St.
George had thin skin and were being chased by all those mosquitoes. Steven and
Art were swattin' and runnin' at the same time trying to find the shortest
route out of all those "mosquiters." The route they chose went through the
garden unknown to them that the pole beans were hung by bailing wire strung
from the top to the bottom of the garden about chest high. They surely
discovered the wire was there when they HIT
it. If they had been going any faster, it would of cut their heads off.
Along about this same time, Uncle Glen and cousin Bob came
up to the Ranch to get some pigs that Dad was selling. The only problem, one of
the pigs got away. Bob is the only person I have ever seen that could run a pig
into the ground and hardly break a sweat! Most of the other experiences I
shared with Bob is when we lived only a block away from each other in St.
George. We played a lot of baseball together. The most memorable thing is
dodging the flying forks!
